The Transgenics Fora Platform defends sustainable agriculture aimed at protecting biodiversity and the right of peoples to sovereignty over their common genetic heritage. This organization was created in 1999, following the first authorization to grow genetically modified maize in Portugal.

The objectives of the Transgenics Fora Platform are several:

- Prevent the release of transgenics into the environment - Stop the commercialization of transgenics in Portugal - Supporting citizens to exercise informed consumption - Monitor scientific research and intervene in the evolution of political-legal framework
